Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX is coming to Switch and Switch 2 in February

Of all the announcements in last night’s Nintendo Direct, none were as big as this: one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh games is getting a remake, and it’s coming early next year.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX is a remake of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 (mind the confusing names), which was originally released on the PSP in Japan and PAL regions back in 2008. The game covers the story of season 4 of Yu-Gi-Oh GX, which was never officially dubbed, though it does also contain a reminisce feature that lets you view stories from prior in the series (namely from Tag Force 1 and 2).

Duels will use cards from the era as well as over 300 new cards, including some very recent support that ties into GX-era decks, like Miracle Ejector, which was released less than a year ago in paper play. All cards will use their modern, updated card text and rulings, too, so players familiar with the cards in modern play won’t be caught out in any strange 20-year-old rulings that no longer apply.

There’s also full online multiplayer, with both casual and ranked modes, mouse mode support on Switch 2, and a whole bunch more. Physical versions of the game will come with three promo cards, including two cards that have never been printed in paper play before (though whether we get the physical in Australia is unclear at this point), and preordering the game on the eShop will also give a code for a bunch of goodies in Master Duel.

Both Switch and Switch 2 versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX are available to preorder on the eShop now, where they’ll set you back $69.94. The game is set to be released on the 16th of February, 2027.
